This STI is an amazing find, for me at least everything is right about it. The color combo, the era, and it has low miles, and not Subaru low miles, but actual low miles, like 15,000 low. Now you know what that means, a high price. $29,900 to be exact. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

So, this made be think. What other obscure and also fast cars could you buy for 30k? And that brought me to this BMW Z4M. It has a respectable 74,000 miles on it, is a coupe, and its an M BMW, so its awesome. It also happens to have a Buy it Now price of only $50 more than its Subaru competitor at $29,950. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!

Kinja'd!!!

So, which would you rather?

This may also spawn a semi-frequent game of "Overpriced STI Or...?"

Dude - if you ever even have the opportunity to test drive a Z4M that seems clean and has a decent price do it!

The last time I was looking for a car to buy I considered the Z4M but there were none for sale within 500 miles of me and I got impatient.

It's a very unique car. I would love to just have the opportunity to drive one some day.

Personally, id pick the STI over the other option. The big wing, massive scoop, gold wheels and that blue color is such an attractive combo.

From what I've heard they're like E46 M3's but much better. I've seen one in real life, it was magical.

Neither. For $30k I'd buy:

2007 S2000 with hardtop, plus $7-8k in mods.

Kinja'd!!!

A brand new Miata PRHT Club spec plus $3-5k in mods:

or a brand new BRZ plus $3-4k in mods:

Runner up: RX8 R3 plus $3-4k in mods (or maintenace haha):

Hrrm, basically new STi or Z4M? If it was the E36 era M Coupe I'd be all over it, but in this case I believe I'd rather take the STi over the Z4 M.

The more rigid chassis and shorter wheelbase make it better on super twisty tracks. It would be so fun to own!

It's so sad that they didn't make too many of them! They're so hard to find.

The BMW. That car is sexy. If the STI was a bugeye, however, then it would be a toss up.

Lets see:

BMW

Actually rare

Does not have a ricer image

You will be confused for a retiree and rarely begged to drag race

Cons

Reliability

Cost of maintenance

STI

Over priced

Reliable -ish

Extra seats

More doors

More practical

Cons

STIs, Imprezas, WRX and everything else with think its another STI

Rice image

Everyone will try to race you

You will find your self upgrading the turbo... and then replacing parts to keep the turbo working

But that's also what makes them awesome for those that have the patience to hold out for one!

There is this awesome German guy that gutted and track prepped his Z4M. I saw his video a while ago and I've tried twice to find his site or video to share with you but I can't find it.

He said that his car is competitive with 997 GT3 RSs. He said the rigid chassis has so much potential. Sucks I can't find it.

I found this thread that I had read before:

http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthr…

Depends how much you will remove from the car. A full race car with the most of the dash, interior, door glass, and rubberized insulation inside the car removed will weigh around 2500lbs bare. Adding a full cage race seat, and fire system will still keep the car under 3000lbs.

If you are still keeping the car a street car and then it will be probably 3000lbs. Most of the rear shelf stuff has to be removed to install a proper cage in the car.

Everything in a Z4 is heavy as with any modern BMW. They are meant to be cushy street car marketed as sports car. There is a lot of weight that can come out.

The car would be competitive however it's expensive to build one.

Z4MC, but I'm terribly, terribly biased. My Colorado baby above. She loves the track, screws your best friend but won't tell you, guzzles gas like gummy bears, but leaves you satisfied and smiling.

I'd pick the BMW until I read the Ad

"very minor ripples on right rear quarter panel to where I rubbed a parked car at 2 mph in a parking lot" There are like 6 big ass dents along the quarter panel, I think it's funny he says they are minor from a little rub and you can hardly notice. Well I can tell you it will look a whole lot worse in person than it does in this best angle pic. Anyway. Both are fun cars but so different, it would be either really easy or really hard to decide.

I would take the Z4M over any Scoody Doo any day, but a bimmer with 74,000 on the clock versus an almost-new STi? That's a tough one. BMW maintenance withstanding.
